In a world of chance and luck, where whatever happens to you from a black cat crossing your path to throwing salt over your shoulder, craps is without a doubt the most superstitious game in the casino. Here are only a few of many superstitions concerning this wonderfully exciting game.

For example, we often see in the movies that the beautiful young wench is the one who tosses the dice for the high rolling old lecher. Social insinuations aside, this scenario isn't that far-fetched. Women who have never rolled the dice before are a much sought after commodity at the craps table, as the are said to have great luck. On the other hand, men who have never rolled the dice before would do well not to tell anyone, since, as any experienced player will tell you, these usually have bad luck.

Another one is that to be the first craps player who throws the dice is never a good idea, since the dice are "cold" and need to be warmed up before they start to cash out serious money. To avoid this simply join a game already in progress. Whether or not you are supersticious or not, why tenpt fate?

Seven is of course the most unlucky number at the craps table. Superstitions about this number abound. For example, the stick man should never ever pass you the dice with a total of seven facing up. In fact, the very mention of the number is considered unlucky by the old veterans.

Dice, too are a sore point among players. If at anytime the dice fall on the floor or leave the table for any purpose, this is considered bad luck. You will often hear the game crew shout out "Same Dice" so as to bypass this stroke of bad luck.

Many craps players will often have their own set of superstitions and ritual and will adhere to them. Some chant, or stack the chips in a certain way, and of course we've all heard the famous "Momma needs a new Mercedes!!" What is important to remember is this: whether or not you believe in these beleifs or not, pleas respect the other players and their superstition. Do NOT ruin the evening for the other players.
